Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) Management on construction sites
SW Moz Svosve has several years of experience working with contractors to implement HSE plans required by clients and donors, e.g. World Bank that has stringent requirements related to Environmental and Social Safeguards. Specific activities are as follows:
- • Revision of project ESIA/ESMPs;
- • Revision/evaluation of HSE plans, emergency response plans, waste management plans;
- • Evaluation of method statements and risk assessments;
- • Preparation and conduct of visitor and worker safety inductions;
- • Ensuring an adequate Code of Conduct is in place for workers to abide by with specific references to child labour, sexual exploitation and abuse, and gender based violence;
- • Implementation of the safe permit to work system for all activities – general, working at height, hot works, lifting, electrical, Lock Out Tag Out, confined space, road closure;
- • Preparation and conduct of general toolbox talks, weekly safety meetings, investigations of all incidents, accidents and near-misses, and auditing contractors;
- • Compilation of weekly/monthly safety reports with statistics of manhours worked, incidents and photos;
- • During HSE site inspections, advise on HSE issues related to correct use of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment), working at height and scaffold erection requirements, hot work requirements, safe excavation procedures, practical waste management, spill contamination clean up procedures and reporting requirements; and
- • Assistance in resolving grievances raised by workers or the community through a Grievance Redress Mechanism.
